Yesterday I, Bill, finally found some time to work with our photographs once again after dealing with computer issues all week. I decided to revisit our collection of bird images from our many visits to the infamous Saint Augustine, Florida Alligator Farms Bird Rookery earlier this year.

I selected this image of a gorgeous Great Egret (scientist name is Ardea Alba) in flight, which was captured by Deb during a visit in May. After working with it using 2017 Photoshop CC and a couple of other plug-in programs I then took a few minutes to drink it in with my eyes. The great egret looked good to me but the sky was nothing but a blank blue, no clouds, nothing but blue. I thought, "that sky looks boring" so I then went to work on it to dress the image up as a whole or in my opinion to make it more of a work of art rather than simply a photograph.

Maybe I'm being a bit "over-the-top" so to speak but that is my opinion. Earlier today I asked Deb to view both images and asked her which one she wanted posted. The first image with the plain blue sky or this one. She quickly said "post that one - I like it much better" and so "happy wife - happy life" and it is done. Now for a few facts about this outstanding bird species.

The elegant Great Egret is a dazzling sight in many a North American wetland. Slightly smaller and more svelte than a Great Blue Heron, these are still large birds with impressive wingspans. They hunt in classic heron fashion, standing immobile or wading through wetlands to capture fish with a deadly jab of their yellow bill. Great Egrets were hunted nearly to extinction for their plumes in the late nineteenth century, sparking conservation movements and some of the first laws to protect bird.

Great Egrets are tall, long-legged wading birds with long, S-curved necks and long, dagger-like bills. In flight, the long neck is tucked in and the legs extend far beyond the tip of the short tail.

All feathers on Great Egrets are white. Their bills are yellowish-orange, and the legs black.
