Believe it or not Fort Gaines Georgia was once a very booming town, which is fact checked by the Coleman Opera House that once thrived. I clearly remember back in the early 1960s when the Walter George Lock & Dam was being built just outside of Fort Gaines the town was a robust one. I used to drive my Cushman motor scooters from Blakely to Fort Gaines (about 20 miles) to visit one of my young puppy loves, a girl named Suzanne. Darn, what memories Fort Gaines brings back.
