Deb and I traveled to Jekyll Island, Georgia on Saturday, February 11, 2017 to photograph all things of interest. As we drove across the causeway toward the toll-booth to enter the island we noticed many ibis wading through tall grasses on the left or north side of the road. Naturally, we stopped long enough to photograph a few of the birds, which turned out to be a crowd of immature white ibis (scientific name is eudocimus albus). The image you see was captured by Deb with the aid of her Canon camera & 600 mm Lens. More interesting information follows on this bird species.
Juvenile White Ibis have the same shaped body, legs, neck and bill and their eyes are also a sky blue but their feather colors are different. Immature White Ibis have brown, white and tan feather colors in their plumage and as they age those feathers are replaced with white, they can look piebald until that change occurs.
All visits to our FAA-Pixels art sites are welcomed, encouraged and appreciated. Please visit often and, if you will tell your friends and family about our art sites. They may find something they like and thank you for the tip.
