We captured "Serene Moment" on April 13, 2019 while visiting the Sweetwater Wetlands Park located on the southern border of Gainesville, Florida. In fact, the city of Gainesville owns and maintains this beautiful wetlands park.
The image captures a very special moment in the lives of a mother Limpkin and her baby just after the mother gave the baby a bit of food for its morning breakfast. The two were well hidden in some undergrowth along a pond's edge when, luckily, we discovered them. WE were very careful not to disturb either while capturing this image using a Nikon D850 along with a Sigma 500mm F4 lens.
The limpkin (Aramus guarauna), also called carrao, courlan, and crying bird, is a bird that looks like a large rail, but is skeletally closer to cranes. It is the only extant species in the genus Aramus and the family Aramidae. It is found mostly in wetlands in warm parts of the Americas, from Florida to northern Argentina. It feeds on molluscs, with the diet dominated by apple snails of the genus Pomacea. Its name derives from its seeming limp when it walks.
All visits to our FAA-Pixels art sites are welcomed, encouraged and very much appreciated. Please visit often.
