Southern Gem was captured on October 24, 2020 while visiting in Hilton-Early County, Georgia. Hilton is a small community located in southwest Georgia near the Chattahoochee River and west of Blakely, Georgia.
Blakely is Bill's hometown and where he was born and raised until early 1965 when he volunteered for service in the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged in mid 1969
Bill returned to Blakely where he remained for the following year.
The following information was copied from the "Explore Georgia" website. The Coheelee Creek Covered Bridge is nestled in the piney woods of Southwest Georgia near Blakely. It provides the perfect backdrop for a picnic as it sits over a picturesque creek. This historic bridge was built in 1891 for a total cost of $490.41. It is the southernmost covered bridge in the United States and is 96 feet long and two spans wide.
All visits to our FAA-Pixels art-sites are welcomed, encouraged and appreciated.
